Red Cross Called to Canteen at Middle
School Blaze
PORTLAND, Ore.—August 11, 2003—Red Cross volunteers
were called at around 7:30 p.m. Monday night to canteen for more
than 130 firefighters at Binnsmead Middle School on SE 87th Avenue.
Four volunteers arrived to the school to provide meals and a constant
flow of beverages firefighters battling the four-alarm blaze.
They were providing services until about 11:30 p.m.
This assistance was offered at no charge to Red Cross disaster
clients, who are served thanks to the generosity of Oregonians
supporting the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross.
