Red Cross Volunteers Help Milwaukie Residents
Affected by Fire
PORTLAND, Ore. - August 11, 2003 - Red Cross volunteers were
awakened by their pagers at approximately 2:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Volunteers were needed to respond to a residential fire that occurred
on SW Courtney in Milwaukie.
Four disaster action team volunteers, including a mental health
volunteer, arrived on the scene to help two adults, a teen and
an infant. Vouchers for meals, groceries and other immediate needs
were provided for the individuals. Volunteers also distributed
bus passes as an option for transportation so affected residents
can go to the Red Cross this week for additional services.
This assistance is offered at no charge to Red Cross disaster
clients, who are served thanks to the generosity of Oregonians
supporting the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter.
