Portland woman affected by the South Asia tsunami helps with ongoing Red Cross relief efforts in the Gulf States

PORTLAND, Ore. – November 15, 2005 – Last summer, Christina Ankofska reached out to her local Red Cross for help after the South Asia tsunami took her daughter's life. Four months later, she is helping the Red Cross with relief efforts.

Ankofska spent a full day in September at the Washington-Monroe High School during the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter's nationally recognized fast track training program. On Monday, she was contacted by the Red Cross requesting her assistance in New Orleans.

With less than 24 hours notice, Ankofska will leave for a two-week deployment in a bulk distribution function. She will be in New Orleans through Thanksgiving and on her daughter's birthday.

On December 26, 2004 , Ankofska's daugher Angie Foust was in Thailand with her friend Luke Scully. In June, the U.S. State Department notified Ankofska that her daughter's remains had been found. As part of disaster relief services, the Oregon Trail Chapter financially supported Ankofska's flight, hotel accommodations, meals and funeral arrangements.
