FLIR Systems Raises $110,000 for Tsunami Relief
Company matches funds collected by employees
PORTLAND, Ore. – February 10, 2005 – FLIR Systems, Inc (NASDAQ: FLIR) announced the collection of $54,140 by employees at locations in Boston, Santa Barbara, and Portland, Oregon. Internationally, fundraising was coordinated by operations in Sweden and the United Kingdom, with donations made by FLIR employees throughout Europe and Asia. FLIR Systems has matched employee contributions, bringing the total to $110,000.
Red Cross Red Crescent Societies around the world are currently providing lifesaving assistance in the form of food, clean water, and sanitation, and other relief items like tents, hygiene kits and cooking utensils. The earthquake and tsunamis that struck
South Asia and Eastern Africa resulted in the largest international relief support in American Red Cross history.
More than $800,000 has been donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund by businesses and residents in the Portland area.
“When the Red Cross met with FLIR Systems employees in Portland, we were surprised to learn how much money each of the FLIR facilities throughout the world had raised for local nonprofits before the holidays,” said Bert Kile, executive director of the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter. “Just days after the holidays in December, FLIR employees worldwide were back at it, raising an impressive amount of money for tsunami relief. We are thankful for their generosity and compassion.”
FLIR Systems employees raised money through a variety of ways, including direct donations, auctions, and sales.
Red Cross workers are currently supporting relief efforts including distribution of supplies, logistics, tracing and family reunification and psychosocial services. Psychosocial support helps people to deal with stress-related mental health problems and psychological traumas as a result of disasters.
