The American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter Conducts 24-hour Disaster Exercise to Test Readiness Levels
PORTLAND, Ore. – April 22, 2005 – Volunteers and staff from the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter are conducting a disaster exercise that includes setting up fully operational shelters in Portland and Gresham . Representatives from the Interstate Unit Southern Baptist Convention, Fook Luk Loaves and Fishes, Girl Scouts, nurses from Multnomah County Public Health and various Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) are involved as well.
Participants are working together to test their functions, such as shelter set up and operations; feeding; health and mental health services; and public affairs. About 100 people are expected to be at each shelter. They are located at:
Greater Gresham Baptist Church
3848 NE Division in Gresham
City Bible Church
9200 NE Fremont in Portland
Dinner will be served at both locations from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22. Breakfast will be served at both locations from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 23 for participants and media.
