Red Cross volunteers help Oregon City family after fire destroys their home

PORTLAND, Ore. – August 21, 2005 – Five American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter volunteers are on scene en rote to a Forest Grove apartment fire to provide recovery assistance to affected residents. Two of the volunteers are specialist – one with a background in mental health and the other being a health professional.

The fire occurred three blocks northwest of Pacific University. Red Cross volunteers were contacted by Forest Grove and Cornelius fire departments around 8:30 p.m. At least seven residents are known to need cash assistance for temporary lodging, meals, food, clothing and medical supplies.

Earlier in the evening, volunteers were assisting a family in Oregon City. Yesterday, a family was also displaced in Fairview. Support is provided to families affected by fire thanks to the generosity of Oregonians who volunteer and make charitable contributions to the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter.
