Red Cross To Distribute Disaster Relief Supplies in Pacific City Area
PORTLAND, Ore. – November 10, 2006 –The American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter will open a supply distribution center in Pacific City this weekend as part of its ongoing effort to provide emergency assistance to families affected by this week’s floods.
The Red Cross center will open at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Kiawanda Senior Community Center, 34600 Cape Kiwanda Drive, Pacific City, and remain open until 3:00 P.M. The center will also open Sunday, Nov. 12 during the same hours. Pacific City is in southern Tillamook County between Tillamook and Lincoln City.
Items available will include clean up kits, personal hygiene kits, garbage bags, gloves, ponchos, hand sanitizer, shovels, tarpaulins, bleach, duct tape, buckets, dust masks and cleaning rags.
Through Nov. 10, the Oregon Trail Chapter has mobilized more than 70 volunteers throughout its seven-county area to provide emergency assistance such as shelter, hot meals, water, medical care, emotional support, clean up kits, toiletries, comfort items such as stuffed animals or crayons for children, and referrals to other agencies for ongoing needs.

Trained Red Cross disaster response volunteers are on standby for other potential flood-related incidents and home fires in the Oregon Trail Chapter’s seven-county service area.
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Local Red Cross volunteers respond to residential fires and other disasters every 40 hours on average. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians.
