Red Cross Opens Shelter In Tillamook County
PORTLAND, Ore. – November 6, 2006 –Flooding of the Wilson River in Tillamook County has prompted the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter to open a shelter for affected residents.
Several homes and an RV park near Highway 6 and McKinster Road are impacted by flood water and rain. The Red Cross will house and feed affected residents at a shelter at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds.
An exceptionally busy week for the Red Cross, the shelter activity in Tillamook marks the sixth response since Friday for the Oregon Trail Chapter, which included three fires, a canteen operation for Multnomah County Search and Rescue, and another flooding.
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Local Red Cross volunteers respond to residential fires and other disasters every 40 hours on average. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians. Financial gifts help provide shelter, food, clothing, counseling and other immediate assistance to those in need. Call (503) 284-1234 or visit www.redcross-pdx.org
