Red Cross Helps Family Displaced by Runaway Car

PORTLAND, Ore. – May 26, 2006 – Five Emergency Services personnel from the Oregon Trail Chapter of American Red Cross responded today when a woman lost control of her vehicle at 11:31 A.M. , crashing through a picture window in the front of a home on N. Woolsey Ave in Portland.

The home sustained major damage and has been deemed uninhabitable pending repairs.

The four occupants of the home, two adults and two children, were all home sick when the accident occurred and sustained minor cuts and bruises. A friend of the homeowner who was asleep on a couch in the front room when the accident occurred was hurt more seriously and taken to the hospital.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Portland Fire and Police responded, and two ambulances were dispatched.

Red Cross is providing emergency housing for the residents of the home through the holiday weekend.  Caseworkers will work with the displaced residents to see what support they may need after Memorial Day.
