Red Cross Assists S.E. Portland Fire Victims

PORTLAND, Ore. – May 7 , 2006 – Emergency Services volunteers from the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to assist fire victims at an unnamed apartment complex on S.E. 124 th in Portland early Sunday morning. The Portland Fire Bureau responded to the two-alarm fire at approximately 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Nine of the ten units in the complex were occupied and several are uninhabitable at this time.

Approximately twenty-one residents were displaced by the fire (16 adults, 5 children) no injuries to residents or responding emergency personnel were reported. Using a bus provided by Tri-Met as a staging center, the Red Cross Disaster Volunteers are meeting with the fire victims to determine and respond to the victim's immediate emergency needs such as food, clothing and shelter. Oregon Trail Chapter physical and mental health personnel are also responding to the fire scene.

The assistance is offered at no charge to Red Cross disaster clients, who are served thanks to the generosity of Oregonians supporting the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross.
