Red Cross Helps at Milwaukie Morning Fire

MILWAUKIE, Ore. – August 23, 2006 – Four volunteer Red Cross responders from the Oregon Trail Chapter are on the scene of a residential fire this morning, to provide immediate assistance to a family of four. Housing, meals, replacement clothing and other personal needs may be provided, once needs have been determined.

Red Cross client services caseworkers will continue to work with the family in the coming days to provide more help as needed. Counseling may also be provided, if requested, to the residents, plus the five visitors who were in the house when the fire began.

A team from Clackamas County Fire District One were called to the fire on Roethe Road, east of McLoughlin Boulevard , around 4:00 a.m. Red Cross responders were called for at 5:48 , and arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.

Local Red Cross volunteer teams are called to help people in the seven county area we serve and deal with fires and other disasters, on average, about every 40 hours.

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provide relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for and to respond to emergencies.  All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians.  Financial gifts help provide shelter, food, clothing, counseling and other immediate assistance to those in need.  Call (503)284-1234 or visit www.redcross-pdx.org
