Oregon Trail Chapter Latest News

PORTLAND, Ore. – January 1, 2007 –A New Year’s day fire displaced 9 apartment residents in SE Portland this afternoon. The Portland Fire Bureau received the call at 3:28 p.m. and responded to the fire in the 2900 block of SE Belmont. The building has 8 units and 4 were heavily damaged. Ten Disaster Action team responders from the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross responded immediately to the scene and are assisting the displaced residents with their emergency needs.

The fire reached a 3rd alarm and damage was contained to the immediate building. No injuries to residents were reported.

“Incidents like these are difficult at best, but when it takes place as you are starting a new year, well, that can seem particularly upsetting to the residents. Our emergency responders will devote the necessary time to help these people get started on the rode to recovery”, stated Larry Stennick, Disaster Action Team 3 Leader. The Red Cross has 8 local disaster action teams that respond to local, regional and national disasters.
