PORTLAND, Ore. – January 3, 2007 –Eight American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter volunteers responded to a two-alarm fire at the Broadway Heights Apartments in Portland to provide immediate assistance to affected residents. The responders included a health provider to assess the medical needs of the affected individuals, as well as family service caseworkers.

The fire occurred at around 11 a.m. Portland Fire Bureau was on the scene and Red Cross caseworkers arrived within the hour.

Six units were affected, and two suffered extensive damage. Red Cross volunteers met the immediate emergency needs of six adults. No injuries were reported.

A Red Cross team will remain on call to provide assistance to any other affected residents.
