Red Cross Responds To Local Fire

PORTLAND, Ore. – (February 22, 2008) An early evening fire forced a family of three adults out of their home in the 7600 block of SE Flavel street at about 7:00 p.m. Friday.

The fire, which caused moderate physical, smoke and water damage to the home, rendering it uninhabitable, was quickly extinguished by Portland Fire Fighters but not before it had filled the small home with heavy smoke and left gapping holes in the roof and ceiling of the residence.

The American Red Cross was notified by Portland Fire and Rescue after the scene had been secured. Red Cross volunteers assisted the displaced residents by providing assistance with food, clothing and temporary lodging.

No one was injured in the fire.

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Local Oregon Trail Chapter volunteers respond to residential fires and other disasters an average of every 40 hours. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians. Financial gifts help provide shelter, food, clothing, counseling and other immediate assistance to those in need. Call (503) 284-1234 or visit www.redcross-pdx.org.
