Red Cross Preparedness Project Rescheduled

PORTLAND, Ore. – (June 17, 2008) The Together We Prepare Hazelwood project, planned for Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22 has been rescheduled. The Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross will now hit the streets, providing preparedness information to Hazelwood residents in late fall of 2008.

"In a neighborhood where immigration issues and language barriers are a way of life for residents, we want to ensure that we're preparing Hazelwood in the most culturally-sensitive way possible...their lives depend on it," said Thomas Bruner, CEO of the Oregon Trail Chapter. "Additionally, scheduling this event when classes are in session helps David Douglas High School achieve their goal of playing a larger role in this important outreach."

The next Together We Prepare Our Neighborhood project will take place in the Hillsboro area in September 2008.

The Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disaster every 36 hours; provides 97 percent of Oregon's blood supply; teaches thousands of Oregonians lifesaving skills; provides transportation to seniors and the disabled; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
