PRP Therapy Process

As mentioned, there are three steps to this process. Not only are there three stages, but you will need to receive the full treatment three times over periods of four to six weeks. (Total time of 12 to 18 weeks depending on the health of your blood)

After you have received the first three treatments, you will need to return for a maintenance treatment two or three times each year. This may sound like quite a hassle, but each treatment takes up only a few minutes of your time. Step 2 – Separating the Fluids

After around ten minutes, your blood will have separated into three fluid densities:

· Low-Platelet Plasma

· Rich-Platelet Plasma

· Red Blood Cells

These three fluid types will be completely separated, ensuring that they cannot mix back together.

Step 3 – Rich-Platelet Plasma Injection

The rich-platelet plasma will be injected into your scalp. Generally, it will be injected in areas where your hair is thinnest to further increase the chances of success.

The process doesn’t work for everyone. However, the doctor should have determined a high success chance before proceeding anyway.

Potential Side Effects of PRP

PRP isn’t a fool-proof treatment. Injecting the scalp can be dangerous if not don’t properly. Here are some potential side effects:

· Damage to nerves

· Damage to blood cells

· Infection through the needles or open wound

· Scarring

· Rash or redness

Some of these side effects are worse than others. Make sure you only allow a professional doctor to perform this treatment on you.

You should also avoid using PRP treatment if you are on blood-thinners, if you smoke, drink, or use any kind of drugs. It is also unwise to use this procedure if you have any major health conditions.

Your blood and skin should both be extremely healthy. Make sure you inform your doctor about any potential issue. The doctor should know whether it is safe to proceed or not.

So Does PRP Therapy Cure Hair Loss?

There hasn’t been enough medical evidence to say with certainty that PRP therapy cures hair loss. The general assumption is that it has little effect on bald spots caused by permanently dead hair follicles.

There is a possibility that the treatment improves the thickness and health of existing hair follicles. Unfortunately, for the time being, the only way to know for sure is to try it yourself!
